New podcast: Atlanta police and City of Atlanta challenged in new civil lawsuit from Cop City RICO defendant

We sat down with ATL 61 defendant Jamie Marsicano and her attorney, Xavier de Janon, to discuss their recent federal lawsuit and the Georgia’s authoritarian crackdown on protesters in more detail

On March 6, we reported on multiple Cop City RICO defendants’ civil lawsuit filings on the second anniversary of mass arrests in Atlanta. Among them is the Feb. 24 federal lawsuit filed by defendant Jamie Marsicano and her attorney, Xavier de Janon. The lawsuit seeks damages from both the officers responsible for the March 5, 2023, arrests at the South River Music Festival, as well as the City of Atlanta.

De Janon and Marsicano argue that the City of Atlanta is responsible for the wrongful charges and prosecutions against Marsicano through implementing an “unlawful, blanket policy of arresting and pretextually charging individuals perceived to be protesting Cop City.”

De Janon adds that their team has also documented a number of other incidents this has occurred over the last three years—and further claim that is this policy that allowed law enforcement to violently kill Tortuguita in January 2023.

Listen in to hear more details of the March 5 arrests at the South River Music Festival, details of the lawsuit, and why de Janon and Marsicano feel it’s important to take civil action in this case.
