Hey y’all,
Pretty much all of March I was working on this article for the Appeal about the authoritarian crackdown against Stop Cop City protesters in Georgia. It was published yesterday. Check it out here: https://theappeal.org/stop-cop-city-protests-domestic-terrorism-georgia/
One of my sources, Pehuén, gave me permission to share their full interview, which wasn’t quoted or focused on as much in the piece. However, I felt it was a really powerful conversation that I wanted to share more broadly. Pehuén was present at the South River Music Fest when police raided and conducted indiscriminate arrests that led to 22 more people being charged with domestic terrorism.
A lot of national and local news pieces surfaced the next day falsely reporting that police arrested people at the Cop City construction site and on the grounds that they were connected to property damage that had taken place earlier that afternoon. This interview, along with others, and our report at the Appeal counters that and correctly reports what happened.
Thanks for support – more soon!
Aja
P.S. – re: the new podcast/radio show, “Finding Out” – this show is still going to be in production but has been stalled to technical and financial issues that I hope to be resolved by sometime in May. My laptop died a couple months ago and I haven’t had the funds to replace it yet. As soon as I have that, we will get the show up and running. We have other exciting things happening behind the scenes at Mainline we will be sharing soon when we are ready. 🙂
