Here’s the second part of me and Chelsea’s discussion re: white supremacy/white supremacist culture in journalism. Based on our lived experiences coupled with research as provided by Minnesota Historical Society and originally published in Dismantling Racism: A Workbook for Social Change Groups by Kenneth Jones and Tema Okun (2001).

INDIGENOUS LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
FOR ATLANTA, GEORGIA
I would like to acknowledge that The Mainline was founded, built, and continues to work and reside on the ancestral native lands of the Muscogee Creek Nation. In a sincere effort to learn more about the land on which I was born, raised, and shown generosity and abundance of love and life, I begin with an acknowledgement and mindfulness of the colonialism and forced removal of the Muscogee Tribe from this land under the Indian Removal Act of 1830. (Source: Native Land.)
The Muscogee Nation is now based Okmulgee, Oklahoma, and is one of the five Civilized Tribes and is the fourth largest tribe in the U.S. with 86,100 citizens. For more information, go here.
FOR SEATTLE, WASHINGTON
I would like to acknowledge that I currently reside on the unceded ancestral lands of the first people of Seattle, the Duwamish People past and present and honor with gratitude the land itself and the Duwamish Tribe. (Source: Duwamish Tribe.)
